JUNE 23-25, 2023
La Lengua No Tiene Hueso is a play about a Latinx family experiencing important historical events related to Latinx/Hispanic culture and community. La Lengua No Tiene Hueso or the Tongue Has No Bone, is based on a Latinx proverb. The tongue has no bone, but it cuts the deepest, and through the deepest things. La lengua no tiene hueso, pero corta lo más grueso. A family of four, mama, papa, hija, and hijo, use pieces of media, literature, and conversation to explore 10 moments of latino history. As they take us on this journey, they beg to ask the questions; who is the American dream for? Does it matter what language we tell our stories in? And how does this country treat nuestro pueblo today?

PATRIA MIRABAL
APRIL 13-15, 2023
Caridad Svich’s adaptation of Julia Álvarez’s 1994 novel In The Time of the Butterflies follows four sisters known as the "Mariposas," or Butterflies--Patria, Dedé, Minerva, and Maria Teresa--as they live through the dictatorial regime of General Rafael Leónidas Trujillo in the Dominican Republic in the mid-20th century. The sisters were real historical figures, and while this is a fictionalized account of their lives, in actuality they inspired resistance cells throughout the country.
As the play unfolds, audiences journey through time, and experience the interior lives of the activist sisters from the beginning of the dictatorship, to decades later as their story is being told by an older Dedé to an American Journalist.
In The Time of the Butterflies is a powerful, moving, poignant play about family, love, and sacrifice.
Storyline
María grapples with the idea of motherhood and an abortion as she navigates life as an underprivileged Latina law student. This piece is a response to the stigma of abortion and men's distorted belief, that they have the right to tell women what to do with their bodies. María provides raw insight into a woman's experience through this process, allowing us to get a glimpse of the varying motivations towards her decision.
